Mexico City Offers 90% Discount on Traffic Fines

The Mexico City government has launched a program allowing drivers to clear their traffic fine debts by paying only 10% of the amount. The offer applies to fines issued between 2019 and 2025 and is valid until April 30, 2026.

Mexico City Offers 90% Discount on Traffic Fines

According to the Mexico City Traffic Regulations, fines are calculated in Measurement and Update Units (UMA) and usually range from 10 to 20 UMAs. This is a list of the most frequent traffic violations committed by drivers in the capital and the corresponding fines for 2026: Parking in prohibited areas: from 10 to 30 UMAs, equivalent to 1,173.1 or 3,519.3 pesos. Invading dedicated lanes (Metrobús, trolleybus, bike lanes): 40 to 60 UMAs, equivalent to 4,692.4 or 7,038.6 pesos. Exceeding the speed limit: from 10 to 20 UMAs, i.e., between 1,173.1 or 2,346.2 pesos. Violating the 'Hoy no circula' program: 20 to 30 UMAs, equivalent to 2,346.2 or 3,519.3 pesos. Driving while using a cell phone: from 30 to 35 UMAs, equivalent to 3,519.3 or 4,105.85 pesos. Not having an insurance policy: from 20 to 40 UMAs, equivalent to 2,346.2 or 4,692.4 pesos. Driving under the influence of alcohol: 60 UMAs for the release of the vehicle after it is towed, equivalent to 7,038.6 pesos. Driving without a license: from 20 to 30 UMAs, equivalent to 2,346.2 or 3,519.3 pesos. The Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Mexico City has launched a program that offers up to a 90% discount on traffic fines, as long as they are not serious violations and all requirements are met. This measure aims to allow motorists with outstanding fines to get up to date by paying only 10% of the original amount and thus travel with peace of mind during this vacation season. Those who take advantage of this benefit can regularize their payments and also advance in other procedures such as vehicle verification or license renewal, which are often blocked if there are pending fines. The program will be in effect until April 30, 2026. Who can access the 90% discount on traffic fines? According to Mexico City authorities, the measure applies only to selected violations and, in general, to those generated between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2025. The program is mainly aimed at owners of private vehicles, as well as license holders for individual transport services (taxis). However, note that not all fines are eligible for the discount. Serious violations, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as high-risk speeding, are excluded. In which cases does the discount not apply? The benefit is not valid when violations are related to: Injuries to persons resulting from traffic incidents. The commission of a crime. Invasion of public transport lanes. Do you have traffic fines? You just need to enter the official portal of the Mexico City Administration and Finance Secretariat and enter your license plate number in the 'Debt Query' section. In a matter of seconds, you can see if you have pending fines, as well as the corresponding amount. Once identified, payment can be made online with a bank card or through a capture line to settle it in banks, self-service stores, and other authorized establishments. How much are the fines for traffic violations in Mexico City? Penalties for speeding vary depending on the road and the degree of exceeding the permitted limit. Have your violations piled up and are you thinking of leaving for Holy Week?
